excessive baby wind both ends!?
my son is 6 weeks old and suffers from shocking wind both ends. I have tried everything dr brown bottles, infacol, colief etc and nothing seems to work. I have changed his formula twice already (i know this could upset his tummy but honestly he can't be any worse). I've now just put him on SMA Lactose Free formula??? He just doesn't sleep because he wakes every half an hour and brings up more wind. He screams when he is passing wind, I have been to the doctors and he just said some babies are more windy than others but i'm sure his wind is not right - it sounds like adults wind!! Any suggestions?? Please help!!
Ugh--that sounds terrible, and familiar. My baby, who is now 4 months old, also had terrible gas. She sounded like she was in labour during the night, she was groaning so loudly. Poor little things.
It's true that babies have very immature digestive systems and you have to wait for them to mature--my daughter has only been relatively gas-free for the last week or so. But that's not helpful in the meantime.
Try burping your baby many times throughout the day. Every time you change your little bub (and other times, too), pump his legs like he's on a race or riding a bike, the bring his feet up towards his head. He'll probably let a lot of gas out. I alternated between that, rubbing her belly in a clockwise motion (one book suggests rubbing downwards on the baby's left side, to make an "I" motion, then an upside down "L" (along the top of the baby's belly, right to left, then down the same side as the "I"), then an upside down "U" (up the baby's right side, across the belly, and down the left side). This apparently moves the gas through the intestines. Again, once you're done this, move his legs or knees up to his chest/head. Then try rotating both legs together in a clockwise circle, and bringing his legs up again.
I did these three movements over and over to get rid of all the gas. It helped prevent the gas from storing up through the day and minimized it a *little bit* during the night.
Gripe water also helped a little bit.
Good luck... I hear your pain!
Pebbles in the pond: Oregon murder-suicides of last November created an enduring ripple effect
In 24 days last November, Oregon saw an inexplicable spike in murder-suicides that killed 14, including two children under 10. Yet the violent end to one family is no simple domestic matter. A year later, the shock has ebbed, but the long ripple effect endures.
